Pancakes by Lady Pancake
Today is Shrove Tuesday which is the day before the start of Lent. Lent is an ancient church practice where people spent time reflecting in preparation for Easter. Lots of people fasted at this time as well. Fasting is when people give up some or all food. It’s still common practice for people to give up something for the time of Lent such as chocolate or other treat type foods. On Shrove Tuesday, the day before Lent starts there is usually a big celebration. We had a Pancake lunch at the studio and talked about what we might reflect on at this time.
Rather than giving up food, we are going to give up some of our stuff! You probably all know what I mean when I say we have so many things in our homes that we just don’t use and other people could put to good use. So, once a week until Easter, we are going to collect certain items to give to people who will be able to put them to good use. Some of the things we will be doing include; collecting up home items to give to an organisation who helps families in need, collecting up old towels and blankets to donate to the SPCA and collecting canned foods to give to a local food bank. We are even going to collect blood one week! Before you freak out, we are going to go to our local blood donation center and do it in the proper way.
Maybe as we approach Easter this year you could join in with what we here at The Aetherlight are doing and think about all the things you have to enjoy in life. You might even find an opportunity to share some of that joy with others like we are!
